Virtus Online

The Archdiocese of Seattle requires all Staff and volunteers who work with children and vulnerable adults to be up-to-date with Safe Environment training. The Archdiocese uses Virtus's Protecting God's Children program. Initially it is required to complete a background check and take the 3-hour class. Every three years a new background check is needed along with any follow-up online classes.

The following steps are necessary to make sure that all volunteers are properly trained:

1.       Background Checks
Volunteers with unsupervised, ongoing access to minors and vulnerable adults are required to complete a background check every three years. You will be able to do this background check through your Virtus profile.

2.       Policies
All volunteers are required to read and sign the Policy for the Prevention of and Response to Sexual Abuse, Code of Professional Conduct, and Reporting Suspected Abuse of Minors and Vulnerable Adults. If you have not signed these, you may do so through your Virtus profile.

3.       Safe Environment Training
Volunteers with unsupervised, ongoing access to minors and vulnerable adults are required to complete the Protecting God's Children course within 90 days of beginning service . Current volunteers are required to take updated online training courses every three years.

In order to complete these requirements you will need to login to Virtus and set up an account for yourself. Click on the "First-Time Participant" button to begin.
